Chinese Medicine Practitioner

Professional qualifications 

​

Dr Henry Liang first received his Bachelor’s in Chinese Medicine (5-year course) from the  Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine (GUCM) in China in 1983. There he was equipped with solid foundation of knowledge in Chinese medicine (CM) and conventional medicine. He then passed the national entry exam to obtain further study in a Master’s course in Clinical Chinese Medicine Classics at GUCM for 3 years and was awarded the Master’s degree in Chinese Medicine in 1986. 
 

Henry Liang enrolled in his doctoral training at RMIT University in Melbourne Australia, and engaged in his research on the efficacy and safety of Chinese medicine for lung cancer.

 

He was awarded a PhD in 2004.

Professional/academic positions

Chinese medicine practitioner (Chinese herbal medicine and acupuncture) in Australia since 1990. 
 

Visiting professor at the Tumour Research Institute of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine (GUCM) China since 2017. 
 

Dr Liang worked as a physician and later a senior physician at the hospital affiliated to GUCM (1983 to 1990). He had acquired extensive skills and experience in treating various diseases and illnesses with integration of Chinese medicine and conventional medicine. 
 

He has been constantly supported and academically guided by Professor Daihan Zhou at GUCM since 1996. Professor Zhou is a pioneer and world leader in the field of Chinese medicine oncology. 
 

Member of Accreditation Committee – Chinese Medicine Board of Australia (2012 –2013).
 

Dr Liang held several academic leadership positions, including the Principal of Sydney Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine (1997 – 2005), and the Head of the Chinese Medicine Program at Western Sydney University (WSU) (2005 – 2009). 
 

He was the coordinator and supervisor for Chinese Medicine (CM) Clinic at Western Sydney University (2005 – 2018). As an academic at WSU (2005 – 2018), Dr. Liang had coordinated and taught in many training units including Clinical Oncology in CM, Mental & Neurological Disorders in CM, Musculoskeletal Health in CM, Chinese Internal Medicine, Dermatology in CM, Chinese Herbal Medicine, Chinese Herbal Formulas etc. 
 

Practice accreditation

Dr Henry Liang has been registered by the Chinese Medicine Board of Australia since 2012 as an acupuncturist, Chinese herbal medicine practitioner and Chinese herbal dispenser. 
 

He has been a member of the Australian Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine Association since 1994 and a member of the NSW Association of Chinese Medicine since 1996.

Areas of interest 

​

Dr Henry Liang has primarily used Chinese herbal medicine and/or acupuncture for helping management of some symptoms associated with the following conditions.

Supportive care of cancers:    

  • Mitigating some symptoms associated with cancer, or side effects that may occur during or after use of chemotherapy or radiotherapy, such as: 

    • anaemia or leukopenia 

    • fatigue and weakness 

    • indigestion (nausea & vomiting, loose of appetite, diarrhoea or constipation) 

    • numbness or tingling in extremities (peripheral neuropathy) 

    • dry mouth and oral mucositis 

  • Enhancing immune functions; 

  • Supporting the body’s vitality energy;  

  • Supportive care with Chinese medicine for the patients during remission or “watchful waiting” period of time or after conventional treatments

Immune disorders: such as allergic rhinitis, ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease, rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis (MS)).

Mental and neurological disorders: such as depression, anxiety, insomnia, headache and migraine, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) and peripheral neuropathy.

Skin conditions: such as eczema, chronic urticaria (hives), psoriasis and neurodermatitis.
